Collection: Adult Literacy

There are over 32 million adults in the United States that cannot read and write.  

Health. Gender equality. Poverty. Every important social issue is impacted by low literacy. When individuals learn how to read, write, do basic math, and use computers, they have the power to lift themselves out of poverty, find and keep sustainable employment, and ultimately change their lives. 

The Newport/Mesa ProLiteracy is a program of the Newport Beach Public Library which provides free literacy instruction to adults struggle with their reading, writing and communication skills.  Dedicated volunteers have helped hundreds of people reach their literacy goals.
